The Sagamore Offers a Classic Holiday Experience in the Heart of the Adirondacks

(ARA) - This holiday season enjoy the wonders of winter in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. The Sagamore, a luxury resort located on a private island on Lake George, New York, is offering holiday activities for everyone -- whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas or just want to enjoy the festive spirit of the season.

Guests can enjoy Hanukkah with a Menorah lighting every night plus a Gift and Gelt Hunt, Candle Making and other crafts, while Christmas time brings a tree lighting celebration, Santa, holiday cooking classes and much more. To ring in the New Year, the resort will celebrate with a “Salute to Hollywood” party featuring live music by the Burners UK and a champagne toast at midnight.

As an added bonus, The Sagamore is offering half-off holidays -- spend three nights at this private island resort during December 19 to 26, 2003 and get the fourth night half off. Rates start at $209 for a lodge room and $269 for a room in the historic hotel. Prices are per room, based on double occupancy.

Guests can also enjoy an array of snow sports and activities ranging from cross-country skiing on the property’s 188-acre trails, to downhill skiing at nearby Gore Mountain (free roundtrip transportation provided), and skating on the golf course -- or on Lake George when weather permits. The Adirondacks also offer ideal conditions for snowmobiling, tobogganing and sledding.

Indoor activities include swimming, tennis, racquetball, and a fitness center with state-of-the-art Cybex exercise and cardiovascular equipment, yoga and aerobics classes. The resort’s full service spa offers specialized treatments, including Acupuncture, Reiki, Craniosacral Therapy, Lifestyle Consultation, Sagamore Stone Massage, Thai Massage and a Roses All Over body treatment, as well as saunas, steam rooms and whirlpool baths.

For dining pleasures, the resort offers guests the choice of several restaurants, including the AAA Four-Diamond Trillium; Mister Brown’s, an Adirondack-styled casual restaurant; The Veranda, a glass-enclosed eatery featuring panoramic views of the lake and offerings of tea, tapas, sushi and creative drink specials; and the Sagamore Dining Room, featuring a gourmet buffet breakfast.

For those who have a passion for cooking, guests can become the chef of a four-diamond restaurant, The Trillium, with their Chef for a Day program. This three-and-a-half-hour session is a hands-on culinary experience where guests work side-by-side with some of the resort’s finest chefs, preparing daily specials and participating in The Trillium’s preparation for dinner service. The Chef for the Day will also have the option to work with the resort’s pastry chef preparing desserts. The program is available to four guests a day, Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at $75 per person. Participants will receive a Sagamore signature apron to commemorate their culinary experience, and can even test their creations by dining in The Trillium that evening.

Located 60 miles north of Albany via Interstate 87, The Sagamore is a leisurely drive from most Mid-Atlantic, New England, Quebec and Ontario Province metropolitan areas, and is just a four-hour drive from New York City or Boston. Other travel options are available, including air transportation and Amtrak train service to Albany -- the latter, a highlight in itself. The train travels along New York’s historic Hudson River Valley, offering spectacular scenery in a relaxing setting. From Albany, guests of The Sagamore can request ground transportation -- an hour’s drive for a nominal fee.

The Sagamore is an official landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places, a recipient of AAA Four-Diamond Award and a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. For information and reservations, call The Sagamore at (800) 358-3585.
